I met up today with Hinano Oshima (pictured), a sponsored athlete with Japan Ski Resort Development and Rescue Wax. During our conversation, she told me, “I achieved my goal for this season by winning the Asia Cup overall title for the second year in a row, and I’ve secured a spot for the 2026–2027 World Cup. I’m truly grateful to everyone who has supported me.”

She added, “The top was firm, but it got soft down low. I didn’t adjust to the change in snow quality very well and almost buried the nose of my board.” Early this morning, the Riesen Slalom Course featured firm groomed granular snow from the upper through the mid sections, while the lower section—where snow coverage has thinned—had softened into loose granular snow.

Hinano also said, “I love skiing the run along the Kurobishi Quad because you can link turns with a really nice rhythm. The grooming is clean today, and the surface skis well.” Along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured), the slope held moderately firm groomed granular snow. The Skyline Course below had the same moderately firm groomed granular surface, with no brush showing.

Limited sunshine delayed the surface softening, but the south-side route at Usagidaira still ultimately developed a loose granular surface. As I wrapped up my reporting, Hinano said, “I’ll keep pushing every day to deliver results on the world stage. I’m also looking for sponsors who want to join me on that journey.” Frost had formed this morning on the snow-free rice fields at the base.
