Tsugaike REPORT

2026.03.26183 cm / Snow & Rain

Fresh snow finally arrived after a long stretch without it, and it was exactly what everyone had been waiting for. I met a man from Nagoya City in Aichi Prefecture who told me, “I always follow Snownavi. It was raining at the base, so my family is still at the hotel. I checked the live camera and saw snow up top, so I came out to ski. Great call!”

Along the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair (first photo), about 1 cm of moist new snow sat on top of slick, granular groomers, and my skis ran well. I ran into a man from Hakuba Village (pictured) who commented, “I always follow Snownavi. Today I chose Tsugaike so I could lap the gondola and stay dry while riding up.”

In the midsection of Han-no-ki (second photo), the thin layer of new snow added some drag on the slick, granular groomed surface. In the lower section (pictured), the surface was a loose, dry granular groomer that ran fast. The Maruyama No. 1 Quad visible in the background will be closed today and tomorrow, but is scheduled to operate on 3/28 (Sat.) and 3/29 (Sun.).

I had a conversation with an instructor from the Yokosuka Ski Association (pictured, far left) and was told, “I brought about 30 elementary school kids here through our association.” The kids responded with a cheerful, “Skiing is fun!” The Oya-no-hara Slope (pictured) had chunky granular groomed conditions that allowed for smooth, controlled turns.
