Kashimayari Ski Resort Family Park is covered in snow! I’m sure many people were concerned after the warm weather on 12/14 (Sun.), the day following the 12/13 (Sat.) opening, but heavy snowfall from the evening of 12/14 (Sun.) through 12/15 (Mon.) quickly pushed the officially reported base depth to 80cm. This is 10cm more than on the same date last season, which ended up being a particularly snowy winter.

The currently open Kurosawa Slope (pictured) was in superb powder condition, with that satisfying squeak underfoot as I stepped onto the snow. There was absolutely no exposed grass or brush to be seen, and with clear blue skies and calm, windless conditions, I enjoyed making smooth turns while facing the pure white peaks of Mt. Kashimayari and Mt. Jigatake rising before me.

I ran into Mr. Nakahara, Head Instructor of the AZ Pro Snowboarding School (pictured, center), who told me, “Kashimayari has a wide variety of courses you can really enjoy. I hope people will take lessons, improve their skills, and get even more out of Kashimayari.” As for access, there are two options: entering directly to the Central Parking Lot via Prefectural Route 325, or parking at the Nakatsuna Parking Lot from National Route 148, taking the No. 6 Quad, and riding up to the top of Kurosawa.

This season, the snow park is making a comeback on the Ippon Buna Downhill Course! “We’re planning to build a large park on Ippon Buna, and we also have some fun events scheduled for early January. Be sure to check our Instagram,” was the word from Mr. Shiromoto, CEO of DSP (pictured, far right). For now, I was able to enjoy the hike-up park on the lower section of Maruyama, where a wide box, narrow box, PVC features, and rails are already set up.
