The warm temperatures continuing since 2/21 (Sat.) have brought the officially reported base depth all the way down to 76cm. Even so, snow coverage remains solid across the Central Area, with the exception of the steep 5-C course. This morning, the sky was calm and sunny, and the air was crisp as I took my first laps on the Kurosawa Slope (pictured), where the groomed granular surface was firm, smooth, and easy to set an edge.

On the Ippon Buna Downhill (pictured), the upper section was groomed, while the middle and lower sections were left ungroomed. The snow softened toward the bottom and into the Nakatsuna Slope, where some exposed dirt and brush were visible. The Snow Park DSP at Nakatsuna will be relocated to the upper section of Course 1-A from 3/3 (Tue.) through 3/6 (Fri.), with reopening scheduled for 3/7 (Sat.).

Luckily, the forecast is calling for snow tomorrow for the first time in a while. At Pokémon Snow Adventure (pictured), the covered snow escalator keeps families comfortable in any weather. I spoke with a visiting family from overseas (pictured) who told me, “This is our first trip to Japan. We’re staying for four weeks, and we’ll spend six days in the Hakuba area. Today we’re playing at Kashimayari all day.”

On Course 5-A (pictured, background), the groomed granular snow felt firm on the upper and lower sections and softer through the middle. Course 1-C (pictured) and the Maruyama Slope also offered firm, well-groomed granular snow. Skis and boards slid smoothly on the gentle pitch, although some dirt showed on the wave feature on the skier’s left side.
