REPORT

With the closure of the Ippon Buna Downhill, Nakatsuna Super Rindo Course, Nakatsuna Slope, and Maruyama Bypass A on 3/7 (Sat.), Kashimayari’s operating status has shifted to “Mostly Open” (more than 50% of terrain skiable). From now on, access to the Central Area from the Nakatsuna Parking Lot will be via the No. 6 Quad. This morning started out cool with mostly sunny skies and plenty of passing clouds.

The Kurosawa Slope (pictured) featured groomed granular snow that was nice and firm and easy to ski. The well-maintained, smooth surface made for excellent laps and quickly got me into the groove for the day. The Maruyama Slope offered similar conditions, with the same nicely set, groomed granular surface.

Visitor numbers were low, and when the 1st Quad started running at 9 a.m., I was the only rider on the lift. On Course 1-A (pictured), the upper and middle sections held firm, groomed granular snow surfaces, while the lower pitch had already begun to soften slightly. Courses 1-B and 1-C were left fully ungroomed with granular snow, and a few spots of exposed dirt were visible.

A father and son visiting from Chiba Prefecture (pictured) greeted me with the familiar phrase, “We always read your reports!” The father added, “I use Snownavi to help choose which ski area to visit. I check it the same way I check the surf reports back home. My son is about to take his ski certification test!”
