Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2026.03.11150 cm / Sunny

We’re launching a two-part special feature report today and tomorrow focusing on “The Appeal of Late-Season Hakunori.” First and foremost is the mellow atmosphere of Hakunori that really stands out this time of year. With a perfectly clear blue sky this morning, temperatures dropped to -6°C, but with no wind it felt remarkably comfortable—and it was the kind of morning where the fresh mountain air naturally puts you at ease.

The next highlight is the view of the Northern Alps on clear days. Of course the scenery opens up once you reach the upper mountain, but even just riding the Alps No. 3 High-Speed Pair, which starts running at 8 a.m., delivers the kind of panorama you see here. The Highway Course (pictured) was freshly groomed today with moderately firm, moisture-rich snow, while the Kamoshika Course was also groomed but had a slightly softer, powder-like moist snow surface. Both were smooth and enjoyable to ski.

Even from the Hakunori Family Course (pictured) around the base area, you can enjoy the Northern Alps scenery as shown here. Because this slope faces north, conditions were similar to those on the Kamoshika Course: freshly groomed, moderately soft moist snow with a slight powdery feel. The surface began to loosen slightly around 10 a.m., but my skis continued to run well and the slope remained very easy to ski.

As for lift operations, the No. 11 Pair concluded service on 3/8 (Sun.), and the No. 8 Pair, No. 9 Pair, and No. 10 Pair are scheduled to close on 3/22 (Sun.). However, the main lift network centered on the Wakaguri Central Slope—the No. 1 Pair, the Alps No. 3 High-Speed Pair, the No. 4 Pair, the Alps No. 5 High-Speed Pair, and the Alps No. 6 High-Speed Pair—is scheduled to continue operating through the final day of the season on 4/5 (Sun.) (※subject to snow conditions). The moon was visible again this morning (second photo), and around 4/2 (Thu.) we may even get a view of the April full moon, known as the “Pink Moon.” (To be continued tomorrow!)
