Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2026.03.12150 cm / Sunny

(Note: Continued from yesterday’s report.) Another highlight of Hakunori in spring is the abundance of self-responsibility areas. By this time of year the snowpack has settled, so while fresh powder is rarely found, the upside is that terrain risks become easier to read. One particularly nice spot is the tree area that drops from the top of the Alps No. 3 High-Speed Pair toward the Rabbit Course (pictured). Because it faces north, the snow quality tends to stay relatively good, making it a great place to enjoy a short “mini” tree run. (※Of course, entering this area is entirely at your own risk.)

Another highlight is the fresh seafood menu. At the newly renovated Snowdrop (pictured, background), you can enjoy dishes like a winter yellowtail rice bowl or sweet shrimp kakiage udon made with seafood delivered directly from Itoigawa City. Meanwhile, in front of the No. 4 Pair base (pictured), the Jim Beam Winter Fest is being held every day through 3/29 (Sun.) from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. after lift operations end. The area is also open during the day, so guests are welcome to bring their own drinks and food and relax there.

Another highlight is the Hakuba Norikura Aqua Oasis, open daily from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. through 3/31 (Tue.). In addition to the outdoor heated pool (pictured), the facility features an open-air jet bath, a large indoor bath, a steam sauna, and the unique earthbag sauna. Access is free for hotel guests, while day-use visitors can enter for ¥4,000 for adults and ¥2,000 for children.

A well-maintained mogul course, slopes that begin right next to the parking area, and the generally uncrowded atmosphere are also part of Hakunori’s late-season appeal. Today, I met a skier from Aichi Prefecture (pictured) who told me, “I always read Snownavi! I’ve been practicing tight carving turns, but they’re pretty tough on fat skis.” From the Rabbit Course down into the Wakaguri Central Slope, the surface was groomed with moderately firm, moisture-rich snow and was skiing well.
