Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2026.03.13150 cm / Snow Flurries

Light snowflakes were drifting through the air this morning. I met two students from Kyoto Institute of Technology—familiar faces at Hakunori this season (pictured)—who told me, “We always read Snownavi! Our friend already went ahead and is on the lift (pictured, back left), so please take a picture with him in it too! Our training camp is over, but we stayed behind to keep practicing for the ski certification test on 3/21 (Sat.).”

Also spotted again at Hakunori this season was former JSBA A-level instructor Tsuyoshi Miratori (pictured). He is the creator of “Miratori” (Mirror Carving & Tricks) and now works as a YouTuber and coach. The Kamoshika Course and the Highway Course (pictured) were groomed with firm corn snow, lightly dusted with a thin layer of slightly moist new snow.

Less than 1 cm of new snow covered the Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured), the Wakaguri Forest Course, and the Hakunori Family Course, all of which were groomed with moderately firm corn snow surfaces. A staff member I spoke with said, “Thanks for coming out to cover Hakunori! Word seems to be spreading that ‘Hakunori and Cortina still have good snow and easy skiing even down at the base,’ so we’ve been seeing a lot of beginners coming over.”

The Satomi Central Slope was also groomed with moderately firm corn snow this morning. As for the connecting course to Cortina, the ungroomed traverse dropping diagonally from the lower section of the Satomi Central Slope (pictured, center) was just barely skiable. If you’d rather not risk scratching your skis, it’s probably safer to take them off and walk across.
