This morning, snow with a slight hint of moisture was coming down hard, driven by a strong northerly wind. A group of four visitors from Omaezaki City in Shizuoka Prefecture (pictured) told me, “We always read Snownavi! It’s been a while since we last skied at Hakunori. The fresh snow today feels really soft and nice!”

On the Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured), 3 to 5 cm of new snow sat on top of groomed, moderately firm corn, creating a soft feel underfoot while allowing for smooth, comfortable turns. The Highway Course and the Kamoshika Course each had about 5 cm of new snow on top of a firmer groomed corn surface. I met a snowboarder from Suzaka City (pictured, right, wearing black) who commented, “I check Snownavi every once in a while. I usually go to Myoko, but today I came to Hakunori because I wanted a more relaxing day on the slopes.”

I also had a conversation with a family visiting from and was told, “We’re staying at the Hakuba Alps Hotel for five days. There’s no snow in Thailand, so our daughter (pictured) is really excited.” By the way, this coming Sunday, 3/15 (Sun.), will be Ski Kids Day, when lift tickets for elementary school students are half price. The “Final Wooden Sled Experience” will also take place that same day.

I crossed paths with resort staff members (pictured) who told me, “We’re preparing the mogul course that was used for last week’s competition so it can be opened to the public. The bumps are pretty firm today, so we’re not sure if we’ll be able to open it.” About 5 cm of new snow sat on top of the groomed, moderately firm corn snow surface on the Rabbit Course.
