REPORT

Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field closed out the season with a classic spring weekend, with clear skies on both Saturday and Sunday. I spoke with an instructor from the Hakuba Iwatake Snowboard School (pictured) who told me, “Thank you for your support this season. To everyone who follows Snownavi, we hope to see you again for lessons next season.”
[North Slope]

The North Slope (pictured) opened at 8:30 a.m. with the start of the 3-Line North lift. The run already had a deep surface layer of softened granular snow, which slowed things down a bit. Snow coverage held from top to bottom with no exposed ground or brush in sight, and the run still felt comfortable. Skiers were also dropping into the banked slalom course in the lower section.

The East Slope (pictured) offered lightly soft, groomed granular snow early on, and the surface carried speed well. On VIEW C, the snow up top through the midsection was similarly soft, groomed granular snow. The lower section of VIEW C was no longer continuously covered in snow, so skiers detoured into the lower section of VIEW D to reach the View 2 lift.
[East Slope]

I ran into a skier from Ueda City in Nagano (pictured, left) who commented, “We always read your reports. I invited my coworker (pictured, right) to come ski with me. The snow melted early this season, but I’m glad we got a lot of days in.” His coworker added, “I usually snowboard, and this is my first time skiing since elementary school. It’s my first time at Iwatake too, and the views from here are incredible.” HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR and the Yoo-Hoo! Swing were busy again this morning.
