Starting on 3/27 (Fri.), Iwatake is operating with just four runs: East, North, VIEW C, and VIEW D. The South Slope closed on 3/26 (Thu.), but 5-Line South continues to run for sightseeing. Today I spoke with two sisters from Chiba (pictured) who told me, “We always read your reports! This is our 25th trip to Hakuba this season, and we’re hoping to keep skiing here through Golden Week.”
[East Slope]
The East Slope and North Slope both offered softened groomed granular snow surfaces. Both runs were fully groomed edge-to-edgel, and I was able to link smooth, controlled turns. On the skier’s left side of the lower part of the North Slope, the banked slalom course from the 3/21 (Sat.) “2026 Hakuba Paradise Slalom” event has been opened to the public.
[North Slope]
VIEW C and VIEW D (pictured) also had softened groomed granular snow, with firmer conditions in the shaded sections. Early visitor traffic stayed concentrated on East and North, leaving VIEW D relatively quiet. Parts of the steep midsection, along with the lower section, were narrowed to about half their full width.
[VIEW D]
HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR (pictured) and the Yoo-Hoo! Swing saw similar crowds again this morning. The winter season has just three days remaining, including today, and summer season operation will begin on 4/23 (Thu.). By the way, the “Alpen Outdoors Presents HAKUBA Yoo-Hoo! FESTIVAL,” featuring a record 22 artists this year, is scheduled for 5/23 (Sat.) and 5/24 (Sun.).
