Yokoteyama Ski Area and Kumanoyu have expanded their open terrain ahead of the rest of Shiga Kogen. The Kaiwa Slope and 1st Slope opened on 11/20 (Thu.), with the full grand opening coming a few days later on 11/22. Afterwards, the 2nd Slope (pictured) opened on 12/6 (Sat.), followed by the 5th Slope on 12/8 (Mon.). At the moment, four lifts and four slopes are currently open.
[Yokoteyama・Second Slope]
The 2nd Slope (pictured) offered a moderately firm, groomed packed-powder surface. The slope itself features a mid-to-gentle gradient, and measures about 2,000 m in length, with a maximum slope angle of 22 degrees and an average of 11 degrees. Light snow was falling this morning, and a thin layer of fog drifted across the slope, but visibility never deteriorated to the point of concern, allowing for smooth, enjoyable turns. When linked with the 1st Slope (maximum 7 degrees, average 5 degrees), even beginners can enjoy a long run totaling 3.2 km.
[Yokoteyama・No. 2 Slope]
A single chairlift (391 m) runs up the 5th Slope (pictured), which has a quiet, atmospheric feel surrounded by evergreen trees. “We’ve been here on a school trip since Sunday. It’s our first time snowboarding, but we’re really enjoying it!” said some students visiting from Yamaguchi Prefecture (pictured). Taking in the rime ice on the trees around me, I cruised comfortably down the gentle slope, where the groomed packed powder was moderately firm and easy to ride.
[Yokoteyama・5th Slope]
The 1st Slope (pictured) was lively with school trip groups not only from Yamaguchi Prefecture but also from Kagoshima Prefecture enjoying their runs. Here too, the groomed packed powder was moderately firm, and even though the terrain is extremely gentle, my skis still glided smoothly. The 1st Pair Lift shown in the photo operates daily, while the 5th Lift is often closed.
