Summer Info
The main section of the boardwalk undergoing renovation work that began on 7/30 (Thu.), the eastern route through the Watasuge Marsh (pictured), has now been completed and reopened on 8/29 (Sat.). (※Work is currently underway on the mountain-side route through the Watasuge marsh.) The new boardwalk is wider and much more comfortable to walk on, and a new bench has also been installed near the junction with the mountain-side route.

Along with flowers such as oyama-rindo, yachi-torikabuto, and shirane-ninjin, the berries of alpine plants throughout the Nature Park are appearing in increasing numbers. Among them, many kuro-tsuribana (pictured) had split open, revealing bright orange-red seeds. Elsewhere, the berries and fruits of gozen-tachibana, takeshima-ran, osho-tanboku, and kuromame-no-ki could also be seen.
[Mizubasho Marsh to Watasuge Marsh]
The grasses and shrubs in each of the marsh areas have been steadily taking on more and more of an autumn tint since late August. The colors already appear deeper than they did at the same time last year (8/28/2025), with noticeably more yellow and brown than just a week ago. Many of the iwa-shobu blooming in the marshes have also begun changing from white to shades of pink and red.

Looking down over the Watasuge Marsh (pictured), the increasing amount of yellow was easy to see. In some areas, the leaves of dakekanba birch trees had also begun turning yellow, while nanakamado and okame-no-ki were showing touches of red. Meanwhile, a new “Challenge Course” was added on 8/29 (Sat.) to the “Tsugaike Riddle-Solving Trekking” event, which has been running since 7/18 (Sat.). Complete both courses and present the two stickers to receive an exclusive pin. (※While supplies last.)
