Since my last visit to Sanosaka, snowfall had been limited, but a heavy dump starting yesterday morning quickly restored slope conditions. The Carving Slope (pictured), with its machine-groomed surface of moderately firm packed powder, showcased the high-precision grooming that Hakuba Sanosaka is known for, creating a beautifully flat surface. Early in the morning, advanced skiers stood out to me, charging straight down the slope with sharp, decisive turns.

I met two visitors from Tokyo (pictured) who told me, “We’re skiing for two days starting today. The snow is great and very easy to ski.” Paradise also offered machine-groomed packed powder that was set up nicely, while the Paradise Downhill, groomed with well-compacted wet snow, had some bushes showing in places, so I skied with a bit of extra care.

I met a family from Ishikawa Prefecture (pictured) who told me, “I always read your reports! We really started to love Hakuba Sanosaka last season, and this is already our third visit this season.” By the way, the first Sunrise Operation of the season will take place on 1/1 (Thu.), with the 2nd Quad and 3rd Quad starting service from 6:30 a.m.
[Lake Down]
Lake Down (third photo) and Lake View (pictured) both offered moderately firm, groomed packed powder that was just right. On the ungroomed New Paradise Slope, about 10 cm of light fresh snow sat on top of a gently undulating surface, delivering a soft, buoyant feel underfoot. With the typical early arrivals you expect around the year end period, both Parking Lot No. 1 and Parking Lot No. 3 were already full, and Parking Lot No. 2 was about half full as of 9:30 a.m.
