This morning, I spoke with a couple from Tokyo (pictured) who told me, “We always read Snownavi. This is our fifth week staying in Hakuba. We’ve been skiing different resorts each day, but Hakunori is our favorite because the runs are wide open and it’s not crowded.” Today marked the second day in a row of calm, spring-like sunny weather.

With the No. 8 Pair closing on 3/20 (Fri., holiday) and the No. 9 Pair, No. 10 Pair, and the Alps No. 3 High-Speed Pair ending operations on 3/22 (Sun.), Hakunori is now operating with four lifts—the No. 1 Pair, the No. 4 Pair, the Alps No. 5 High-Speed Pair, and the Alps No. 6 High-Speed Pair—and four courses: the Hakunori Family Course, the Wakaguri Central Slope, the Rabbit Course, and the Wakaguri Forest Course. This morning the Rabbit Course (pictured) had groomed corn snow that had softened to a moderate degree.
[Rabbit Course]
The Wakaguri Central Slope had groomed corn that was softer than the Rabbit Course, while the Wakaguri Forest Course (pictured) had full-on loose granular corn snow. On the Wakaguri Forest Course, skiing with flat bases created a slight drag, so I consciously kept my skis on edge.

Exposed dirt has started to spread near Snowdrop and in the lower section of the Wakaguri Forest Course, but a groomed route with snow gathered from other areas has been maintained to access the No. 4 Pair, the Alps No. 5 High-Speed Pair, and the Alps No. 6 High-Speed Pair. Temperatures climbed quickly, and by around 9:30 a.m., it was warm enough to break a sweat while moving.
