Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2026.03.24100 cm / Sunny

The clouds hanging over the area around 8 a.m. gradually cleared, giving way to sunny skies with a light northerly wind. The first skier down the Rabbit Course, a man from Toyama Prefecture (pictured), told me, “I always read Snownavi. I have a season pass for both Hakunori and Cortina. I’ve been skiing Cortina most of the time, so I came back to Hakunori for the first time in a while.”

I also ran into a student from Otari Village Elementary School (pictured) that said, “I’m on a Nordic combined team in Hakuba Village. I want to become like Akito Watabe!” The Rabbit Course had groomed corn snow with a loose, granular surface. There were a few thin spots near the top, but they did not affect skiing.

The Hakunori Family Course (pictured), was groomed with loose, granular corn snow and saw many beginners and first-time skiers. A family from Shizuoka Prefecture (pictured) commented, “We always read Snownavi! This is our first time meeting you. We were at Cortina yesterday, and today we’re at Hakunori.”

The Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured) and the Wakaguri Forest Course were also groomed with loose, granular corn snow. A member of the ski patrol told me, “Snowmelt has been progressing rapidly, and we’re putting up more marking poles, but the softened corn surface is skiing well.” Both courses had expanding areas of exposed dirt toward the bottom.
