Goryu47 REPORT

2024.01.22210cm / Cloudy

Yesterday, 1/21 (Sun.), was marked by rain and wet snow during the day. As temperatures dropped overnight and into the morning, the extra moisture in the snowpack meant that this morning’s groomed slopes generally had hard-packed wet snow surfaces. I overheard some skiers on the Grand Prix Course commenting about how hard the snow was, along with the sound of edges scraping and skipping over the surface.

With that said, it was a mild morning, so the hard packed conditions on the Grand Prix Course (pictured) didn’t last too long, and my edges soon started to get more purchase. The Panorama Course was groomed with a moderately firm wet snow surface. Both the Dynamic and Woody courses were hastily groomed with some tracks remaining, but by 10:00 the surface snow had been scraped by the edges of skiers and boarders to the point that it made conditions less difficult.

Yesterday’s precipitation fell as snow on the high ridgeline of the Ushiro-Tateyama Mountain Range (pictured), so Mt. Goryu and the three Hakuba peaks looked beautiful covered in a fresh coat of white. The area along Line-E (pictured) had similar conditions to the Panorama Course, with a moderately firm, groomed wet snow surface. All courses were relatively busy with people, particularly international visitors, even though it was a weekday.

The groomed trails on the lower portion of the ski resort, which had been hard-packed first thing in the morning, had begun to loosen up by 10:00 a.m. and were getting easier to ski. I was greeted by a group consisting of the owner of Takahashi-ke Ramen, a local snowboarder, and a rider and staff member with MOSS SNOWSTICK (pictured right to left), who told me they were fans of Snownavi. By the way, all courses were open again today, with the exception of the Adventure Course!
