Goryu47 REPORT

2024.01.20225cm / Cloudy

Tomorrow, 1/21 (Sun.), is a Kids Ski Free Day where elementary school students receive a free one-day lift pass (*preschool children are always free), and a Treasure Hunt event (*participation free, 11:00 start) will be held at 47! In addition, the weekly free food handout held on Sundays, with warm soup and snacks, is back on Sundays at 47 until 3/31 (Sun.). It was a calm, overcast morning with rime ice caking the trees on the upper portion of the mountain.
[Line-C]

The rain that fell during the day on 1/18 (Thurs.) did not significantly affect the snowpack, but it did make the slopes harder overall. The lower part of Route 8 (pictured) was groomed, with a hard wet snow surface. My skis ran faster than what I would have expected, so I had to be careful to control my speed and avoid going too fast.
[Lower Portion of Route 8]

Route 2’s steep slope (pictured) also featured a hard, groomed wet snow base. My edges held the surface, but I had to take each turn carefully. Although the weekend brought visitors in number to the slopes early, most of those who got off Line-C headed for the upper portion of Route 1 in the morning, leaving Route 2 rather empty.
[Route 2]

47PARKS, which reopened yesterday, 1/19 (Fri.), was groomed with well-pressed wet snow. Route 5 and 6 had hard packed, groomed wet snow, while the groomed lower part of Route 1 (pictured) had a firm wet snow base. There was no sunlight on the slopes during my visit, and the air was cold, so it felt colder than the temperature might suggest.
