Goryu47 REPORT

2024.01.15220cm / Snowy

Heavy snowfall overnight on 1/13 (Sat.) brought the official base depth to over 200 cm, and another big dump last night and this morning has further increased that number! With the Adventure Course open, every single run at Hakuba Goryu & Hakuba47 is now open. This morning I headed up via the Cosmo Four Lift (pictured) since the start of the Goryu Telecabin was delayed due to a lengthy safety inspection of the upper slopes.

As I got off the Cosmo Four Lift, which began operating about 10 minutes late, I first headed over to the Sunnway Course where 5 to 10 cm of fresh snow topped the moderately firm, groomed powder snow surface. From there I dropped into the steep DISCOVERY slope (pictured) and had an exhilarating run skiing straight down the the 25 to 30 cm of fluffy fresh snow sitting atop the well-packed, groomed powder base!

Nearby, DEFENDER (pictured) was ungroomed, and topped with 35 to 40 cm of fluffy new snow. Although I bottomed out on the soft, uneven base from time to time, I was able to enjoy the unique floating sensation that only powder provides. Competition for fresh tracks was low, too, and I was able to get in several runs on untouched snow since most visitors looking to score fresh powder were lined up for the Goryu Telecabin.
[DEFENDER]

The Powder Snow Course had a moderately firm, groomed powder snow surface with about 20 cm of new snow on the skiers’ right side near the Iimori 6th Pair, and 3 to 5 cm of fresh snow on the skiers’ left side (pictured). The Soft Cream Course and Toomi Slope both had 2 to 3 cm of fresh snow on well-packed, groomed powder bases. In the end, the Goryu Telecabin began operating at around 9:10 a.m.
