Happo-one REPORT

2025.05.05190 cm / Overcast

The final slope report of the 2024–25 winter season comes to you from Happo on 5/5 (Mon., holiday). Due to strong winds at the top of the resort this morning, the gondola began operating behind schedule, at 8:35 a.m., and the lifts above the Alpen Quad started running even later, at 10:00 a.m. On the lower section of the Panorama Course, where the snow has been thinning and the amount of exposed ground has been steadily spreading (pictured), snow had been moved toward the skier’s left side, securing a 3 to 5 meter-wide path of ample coverage.

I ran into a father from Osaka (pictured, far left) who told me, “I always read your reports! A photo you took of us previously was featured on Happo’s official website—thank you! I got to ski a lot again this season.” A pair from the town of Shinano, in Nagano (pictured, right), whom I met at the same time, added, “We always read your reports, too! We’re glad the morning winds died down and the lifts started running. It’s been a great season with plenty of snow in Hakuba, Nozawa, and even our local resort Kurohime!”

Later on, I had a conversation with a father from Aichi (pictured, far right) who commented, “I always use Snownavi! I’ve accompanied my daughter (pictured, far left) to Happo 70 times this season. Also, my younger child is on the HAPPO Junior Technical Team and is taking lessons today.” The daughter added, “I’m an alumna of that team as well, and I met my friend here (pictured, center) back in those days.”

I happened to notice members of the HAPPO Junior Technical Team boldly taking on the large moguls in areas such as Sodeguro (pictured) and Kurobishi. This morning, all open runs had a thick surface layer of soft, granular spring snow. Even after all scheduled lifts started running, a steady southern wind helped keep things from getting too hot, making for a comfortable day on the mountain.
