Ninja REPORT

2026.01.0360 cm / Clear Skies

The light, fine snow that had been falling earlier in the morning eased off around the 8:30 a.m. opening, and patches of blue sky began to appear overhead. I caught up with a snowboarder from Nagano City, who laid down the first tracks of the day (pictured), and was told, “I always read your reports. My edges bite really well, and it’s super easy to ride!” I watched as he carved clean, graceful lines down the slope, against a midwinter landscape wrapped in pure white.

The Blackbeat Slope (pictured) had about 5 cm of light new snow on top of a moderately firm, packed powder base, which offered confidence-inspiring conditions that let me comfortably build speed. A couple visiting from Saitama said to me, “We skied in Hakuba and Myoko during the New Year holidays, and Ninja is our final stop. It feels just as good as we expected—coming to Ninja was definitely the right choice!”

I also had a conversation with a resort staff member who explained, “To improve slope conditions as much as possible, we ran nine snowmaking machines yesterday while temperatures were low.” The groomed upper section of Drago (pictured) featured a well-compacted groomed snow surface, where man-made and natural snow had been blended and pressed together into a moist base with a powder-like feel. On the ungroomed skier’s right side, around 10 to 15 cm of soft, fluffy new snow had accumulated.

Ninja’s slope reports seem to be pretty well known now, and I heard plenty of friendly comments like “Snownavi!” and “I always read your reports.” I was also greeted with a “Thanks for all your support!” by an instructor from the Smile Snowboard School, who added, “Starting 1/31 (Sat.), we’ll be running our ‘Masterkey 2026’ program, offering four types of lessons: freeride, kicker, carving, and slalom.”
