Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2026.01.14180 cm / Snowy

The snow that began falling yesterday continued through this morning. Before the No. 10 Pair started running, a light northerly wind was blowing across the upper slopes, and at times the sky brightened as patches of blue sky appeared overhead. I ran into a skier from Otari Village (pictured, far left), who was first in line for both the No. 9 Pair and No. 10 Pair, and smiled as they commented, “Looks like another great day out there!”

Even on a January weekday, when crowds are usually at their lightest, a solid overnight dump was enough to create a long line at the No. 10 Pair. (Or perhaps more people really are just starting to catch on to Hakunori’s appeal!?) When I pushed a measuring stick into the pristine snow surface on the Sky View Slope, the fresh snowfall came in at 25 to 35 cm. Riding over a soft, undulating yet forgiving base topped with fluffy new snow delivered an outstanding sense of float and made for an incredibly satisfying run.

From the very first run, I spotted riders hiking up slightly from the No. 10 Pair unloading area and dropping into the self-responsibility area on the west side of Sky View (pictured), which had an impressive 35 to 40 cm of fluffy new snow. In the wide-open upper section, I let my skis run and used big, sweeping turns to stay afloat, then switched to quick, controlled short turns through the mid to lower section (where some exposed brush began to appear), making for an extremely satisfying descent.

The groomed Satomi Central (pictured), Wakaguri Central, and Wakaguri Forest courses were all skiing beautifully, with moderately soft, well-packed powder across the board. On the Satomi Central Slope, the center of the slope stretching between the upper to mid portion had been sectioned off as preparations were underway for the “Morishita Jintan 2026 Osaka Prefecture Kids Moguls Competition,” scheduled to take place from 1/16 (Fri.) to 1/18 (Sun.).
