On 2/23 (Mon., holiday), the final day of the three-day weekend, an event called “Find K!!” will be held, where participants try and spot street snap photographer Kei (K) and have him photograph their dogs. It was a cloudless morning that brought perfect conditions for skiing—and for photos. On Dog, which had well-set groomed wet snow, I saw many people skiing together with their dogs.

“The mountains look beautiful today. It’s amazing to be able to ski such great runs almost as if we have them to ourselves!” said an instructor (pictured, far right) I met in the middle of a lesson on Weasel. A student staying at Kurohime Kogen Hotel (pictured, back) told me, “It’s my first time snowboarding and I fell over and over, so my tailbone really hurts. Today I’m wearing two layers of padding. The toe-side practice we’re about to do is honestly terrifying, haha.”

Like Dog, Weasel and Tiger also had well-set groomed wet snow, that allowed not only skis, but also sleds and dogs to run smoothly. Kurohime’s main run, Leo (pictured), offered the same firm, well-groomed wet snow, and I was able to link turns comfortably on the ultra-flat surface.

Dragon (pictured) had similar, firm groomed wet snow to Leo. With its rolling terrain and changes in pitch, it’s a fun run where I varied my turn rhythm as I descended. There was a small kicker on the skier’s left near the end of Leo, and a small kicker and wave feature near the bottom of Monkey.

*On 2/28 (Sat.) and 3/1 (Sun.), 2026, the 72nd Lerch Memorial event will be held, featuring technical competitions in both skiing and snowboarding.
