The Tsuga No. 2 Pair reopened on 4/15 (Wed.), and with that, the Tsuga-no-mori Slope (pictured) is back in operation. I met a couple from Osaka Prefecture (pictured) who told me, “We always follow Snownavi. We came specifically to enjoy Tsuga-no-mori now that it’s reopened. It’s a bit chilly today—we wish we had brought another layer.”

The rain from yesterday afternoon fell as snow along the ridgeline, freshening up the Northern Alps (pictured, background left). On the Tsuga-no-mori slope, the latest snowmaking systems continued to run, even during the closed period, so the groomed runs had full snow coverage with no exposed brush or thin spots.

The moderately firm, groomed granular snow on the Tsuga-no-mori Slope (pictured) allowed my skis to run fast. Along the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair, the surface started out as slightly loose granular snow, and softened more and more the farther down I skied, becoming very loose by the bottom. Yet, snow coverage remained solid with no thin spots, and the snow supported smooth, controlled turns.

I had a conversation with a man from Nakatsugawa City in Gifu Prefecture (pictured) who told me, “I always follow Snownavi. Resorts in the Kiso area closed early, so I came out to the Hakuba area.” Later on, a couple from Hyogo Prefecture commented, “We always use Snownavi. The Tsuga-no-mori Slope has a nicely set surface, and the Gotemba Course (pictured) has that loose, granular feel—but both are skiing well.”
