Course 1-A, Kashimayari’s main slope, has a maximum slope angle of 28 degrees, an average of 16 degrees, and a length of 1,100 meters. The run starts out with a gentle section up top (pictured), then gradually steepens, and finishes with a wide, open steep pitch. I ran into a woman riding a snowskate (pictured), who called out to me, “Snownavi! I finally got to meet you!”

Today, Course 1-A featured well-set, groomed powder topped with 0 to 2cm of light fresh snow. I ran into a father visiting from Azumino City (pictured, right) who told me, “I always check Snownavi. We had snow in town overnight, with about 20cm of snow at my place, so I had to shovel before coming out to ski. I’ve got a Kashimayari season pass and come almost every weekend.”

“I always use Snownavi. The grooming is just right and conditions are good today. I usually come with friends, but I’m here solo this time,” said a woman from Matsumoto City (pictured). On the skier’s left side of the lower section of 1-A, the ungroomed area held around 10cm of soft, fluffy new snow.

As the cold northerly wind picked up, the blue skies visible around the resort’s opening gradually gave way to cloud cover, and before long, dry snow began to drift through the air. I crossed paths with three elementary school kids who were skiing on the debut slope at Pokemon Snow Adventure, who commented, “We stayed at Central Plaza 1130 last night. The bunk beds were really fun.” The Kurosawa Slope an Ippon Buna Downhill Course both had well-set groomed powder surfaces that also offered smooth, easy-to-ski conditions.
