Happo-one REPORT

2026.03.03245 cm / Snowy

Early this morning, wet snow was coming down hard as I stepped off the gondola. On the Panorama Course (pictured), 2 to 3cm of moist new snow covered the loosely groomed granular surface and gave it a creamy, smooth feel underfoot. Steady rain had fallen at the base earlier in the morning, so visitor turnout was extremely light. I had the wide, flat groomer nearly to myself and carved comfortably from edge to edge.

A fairly strong southwest wind was blowing across the upper section of Usagidaira. On the upper half of the Usagidaira South Side Route (pictured), up to 3cm of wet new snow sat in patches over the firm, groomed granular surface. On the lower half, 2 to 3cm of moist new snow rested on the well-set granular grooming and softened the ride slightly. Along the ungroomed Alpen Quad line, 1 to 3cm of wet new snow covered the large, well-developed moguls with a firm base underneath.

About 5cm of moist new snow blanketed the moderately firm granular grooming along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured). My skis ran well, and I was able to carry speed smoothly and stay in control from top to bottom. I ran into a skier from Hakuba Village who told me, “It’s been a while since we’ve had snowfall like this. The new snow on Kurobishi is better than I expected. I just wish it would snow at the base, too.”

On the Skyline Course (pictured), 2 to 3cm of new snow lay over the loosely groomed granular snow surface and made for smooth, predictable turns. Recent warm temperatures have rapidly reduced snow coverage on the lower portion of the mountain, and the resort has had to close the Kitaone forest road, the steep Kitaone slope, and the new Kitaone course. As a result, skiers now need to ride the downhill line of the Sakka Kitaone Quad to reach the Sakka Slope. Due to limited snow, the north side of the Nakiyama Slope, Nakiyama Snowland, and Olympic Course I are also closed.
