Shinshu Matsumoto Airport (pictured), Nagano Prefecture’s gateway to the skies, is served by regularly scheduled flights operated by Fuji Dream Airlines (FDA). (※ All flights are codeshare services with Japan Airlines (JAL)). Travelers can take advantage of daily departures to and from Fukuoka Airport, Kobe Airport, and New Chitose Airport. During the summer flight schedule, service is also available to and from Sapporo Okadama Airport, while Osaka International Airport (Itami Airport, JAL flights) is typically served from late July through late August each year.

The compact terminal building (pictured, open from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.) is open to everyone, not just airline passengers. On the 1st floor, the arrival lobby (pictured) features ticket counters, an information counter, a nursing room, coin lockers, and a shop. The 2nd-floor departure lobby includes paid waiting rooms, boarding lounges, business booths, shops, a restaurant, and a multipurpose hall.

There are three ways to reach Hakuba from the airport: (1) take a local bus (¥590 for adults), airport shuttle bus (¥800 for adults), or taxi from outside the terminal building to JR Matsumoto Station, then continue on the JR Oito Line (¥1,230 between Matsumoto and Hakuba); (2) rent a car; (3) or use the “Shinshu Matsumoto Airport Shuttle Service” operated by Nan-An Taxi (pictured), which runs daily via advance reservation only. Because the airport shuttle service is a reservation-based shared ride service, the size of the vehicle changes depending on the number of passengers.

The “Shinshu Matsumoto Airport Shuttle Service” costs ¥3,000 to JR Hakuba Station (※ For adults and children alike.) After leaving the airport, the shuttle travels via Prefectural Route 321 (pictured) and National Route 147. FDA also offers “Dream Price,” “Members Price” (※ free membership registration required), and various promotional campaigns, meaning that depending on the timing, flying from the Kansai area can actually cost less than traveling overland.
