Sugadaira REPORT

2024.01.0245cm / Partly Cloudy

Happy New Year! The Schneider Slope, which opened on 12/23 (Sat.), had a moderately firm, groomed surface mixed with artificial snow that still maintained a powerfy feel. I spoke with a skier from Ueda City (pictured), who told me, “I love your site! Sugadaira has been my home resort for about 10 years. I stay at my grandmother’s guest house when I come.”
[Schneider Hannes Course]

To get to Oku Davos from Schneider, you first need to head in the direction of the Ura Davos Heart-no-mori course which you can see here on the left, climb back up, and then ski down to Omote Davos and use the Beat lift (pictured, background). It is not possible to ski directly to the Beat Lift, however it is possible to ski between the four slopes of Schneider, Ura Davos, Omote Davos, and Oku Davos.
[Schneider]

It is also possible to ski to and from Ura Taro, Shirogane, Hinode, and Tengu (see the slope map on the official resort website). The Oku Davos Chibikko Park is now open. (*Free admission and equipment use!) I had a chat with a father from Tochigi Prefecture said who said he had come back home to Sugadaira, and that his kids were crazy about sledding.

At the Oku Davos Snow Park, which opened for the season on 12/23 (Sat.), the family course was groomed to the width of about 3 to 4 grooming machines. The surface has a flat finish and no bushes are in sight. Presently, the only open lift is the Oku Davos No. 2 Lift, but I was able to get on it after waiting on just a few people before me.
