Due to the Ski Association of Tokyo’s Certified Ski Instructor Examination being held this weekend, the Stage 3 Lift will begin operating 30 minutes earlier than usual, at 8:00 a.m. (*General public use is allowed.) Also, on the Ura Taro Kamoshika Course (pictured), a practice session was held today before tomorrow’s Smile Cup giant slalom competition, sponsored by the Smile Snowboarding School.

The pre-event giant slalom practice session, held on the same course as tomorrow’s competition, was attended by 50 people, while 84 people are registered for the Smile Cup tomorrow. The Ura Taro Kamoshika course (pictured) was groomed with moderately firm powder snow, and at the course inspection that began at 9:15 a.m., participants discussed their strategies with eachother.

I met a couple from Aichi Prefecture, with one of them (pictured) telling me, “Snownavi! It’s been a while. We’re practicing hard today for tomorrow’s Smile Cup!” Ura Taro Family East & West (pictured), like Kamoshika, had moderately firm, groomed powder snow surfaces that incorporated 5 cm of light, fresh snow, and were comfortable for linking turns.

In conjunction with the Smile Cup, there is also a Gray Snowboards Test Ride event taking place today and tomorrow. (*Starts at 10:00 a.m., free of charge, ID required.) I ran into a man from Yamanashi Prefecture (pictured), who said he was a fan of Snownavi, and added, “I came here for this test-ride event. I’d like to try out different lengths of the same board to compare how they ride.” It had been snowing lightly early on, but around 10:00 a.m., it started to come down with more intensity, and strong winds began blowing from the north.
