Sugadaira REPORT

2024.03.27165cm / Partly Sunny

The rain that was falling yesterday during the day turned to snow overnight, and 10 to 15 cm of new snow had accumulated by this morning. The Ura Taro Family West, East, and Ura Taro Schi Heil (pictured) were groomed with moderately soft wet snow with a very similar feel to powder! I enjoyed skiing while enjoying the beautiful snowy landscape.

Tengu A (pictured) was completely smooth with no tracks across its surface. Perhaps because of early maintenance, there was around 10 cm of fresh snow sitting on top of a moderately firm, groomed surface that was a mix of wet and granular snow. The moist wet snow provided a bit of friction against my skis, but I enjoyed laying first tracks.

It was a slow, quiet start for Tengu A, and even after three trips back up on the Tengu Quad, I was still drawing fresh tracks on the smooth snow surface. The southern sky was thick with clouds, and I could see Mt. Asama smoking in the distance. The Ura Taro Rabbit Course had soft, “near powder” wet groomed snow, while the Ura Taro Super Racer and Kamoshika Courses had moderately firm groomed surfaces with a composition of around 80% wet snow and 20% granular snow.

Going back to the start of the day, I spoke with a local from Ueda City (pictured), who told me, “I love your site! Yesterday I came all the way to the parking lot but left without getting out of the car because of the rain, but it’s transformed back to a winter landscape overnight!” While Oku Davos celebrates its last day of business today, 3/27 (Wed.), operation of Ura Taro Stage 3 has been extended, with the Family East and West slopes now open until 4/21 (Sun.). (*Weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., weekends 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
