Sugadaira REPORT

2022.12.2040cm / Sunny

The Taro and Davos areas’ Hinode (*closed to the general public until 12/23) and Heart-no-mori slopes opened on 12/17 (Sat.), followed by Shiragane Rinkan and Shiragane Karamatsu on 12/18 (Sun.). In terms of the Heart-no-mori area, the route through the forest (pictured), lying in the middle of the run after coming off of the Wave Lift, is skiable. This morning, as the recent winter weather system has died down, groups of elementary and high school students could be seen having lessons on the slopes.

At Pine Beak, the Omatsuyama SAJ-certified Champion Course and Tsubakuro Family Course are currently open as of 12/17 (Sat.). I spoke briefly with a father who brought his children (pictured) here to practice, and he told me, “One brother is in his first year of Junior high, and the other in his first year of elementary. We come every year for team practice.”

On Ura Taro’s Schi Heil Course, the artificial snow machines were busy pumping out snow in an effort to get the area open as soon as possible. When it does open, the ‘SAVREQ’ automated photography system, which captures skiers on film thanks to AI, will be available for use.

On Ura Taro Family East (pictured), Heart-no-mori, and Tsubakuro Family, the slopes were firmly-groomed and easy to ski, while the groomed surface of the Champion Course was hard-packed. Ura Taro Family East now has noticeably more snow coverage than when the resort opened, and the groomed area has expanded to cover the full width of the course. In other news, an event where Santa Claus comes to the slopes will be held on the Ura Taro Family and Ura Davos slopes on Chirstmas day, 12/25 (Sun.), beginning at 1:00 p.m.
