A mecca for student and beginner bus tours, Ryuoo Ski Park continues to focus on entry-level and developing riders. This season, the new “Step Up Lessons” program for beginner to intermediate guests offers free lessons in Carving, Park, Ground Tricks, and Freeriding. In addition, the Snowboard Debut Area provides free lessons with no reservation required, helping first-timers progress to the point where they can link turns together and ride on their own.

Today, 2/13 (Fri.), brought clear skies, no wind, and ideal conditions for a full day on the slopes. After riding the ropeway and transferring to Seventh Heaven, I headed to Course A, where I spoke with a group of four from Chiba Prefecture (pictured). “The last time we came, the runs were easy to board and we had a great time, so this time we brought a beginner friend with us. We love that even beginners can ski up top. It feels absolutely amazing!” they told me.

Courses A, B, and C (pictured) offered well-packed groomed powder, and I enjoyed views of the rime ice and snow-covered trees, and the distant Northern Alps as I skied. Even on the gentler pitches, the snow had excellent glide, which made for smooth, easy turns. Earlier in the morning, before the ropeway began operating at 9:00 a.m., I skied the Mid Slope (first photo), where the groomed surface was firm with a slight bit of moisture, but still retained a powder-like feel.

After stepping off the ropeway, most passengers first made their way to the observation terrace at 1,770 meters (pictured). From the SORA terrace, guests admired the sea of clouds below. I heard excited voices all around me saying things like, “Look! The clouds are beautiful!” “Wow, what a view!” and “Just seeing this makes the trip to Ryuoo worth it.”
