Shiga Kogen REPORT

2026.03.25160 cm / Cloudy

The amount of snow still remaining, and its beautiful white color really stood out to me this morning. I met a group of four from Tokyo (pictured) who told me, “We always check your reports! We didn’t know you cover Shiga Kogen too! There’s more snow left than we expected, so we’re glad we came.” Thin clouds covered the sky to start the day, but soft sunlight still filtered through.

A passing low-pressure system along the southern coast was likely responsible for the milder temperatures. Not just at the Ichinose base area, but even at Terakoya (2,060 m), the light southwest winds occasionally felt warm. The Eternal Course (pictured), LIPS Course, and Philosophy Course were all freshly groomed and had firmly packed granular snow. The surface ran fast, and edges held cleanly, making for strong, confident turns.

Spring operations begin on 4/1 (Wed.), when a limited-area 1-day pass goes on sale for Terakoya, Ichinose Family, and Takamagahara Mammoth (※Adults JPY5,600, Elementary School Students JPY2,800, Preschoolers free). These three areas will stay open through 5/6 (Wed., holiday). Conversely, Sun Valley, Maruike, Hasuike, Higashidateyama, Ichinose Yamanokami, Ichinose Diamond, Tanne-no-Mori Okojo, Giant, Nishidateyama, and Happo Bunadaira are scheduled to close on 3/31 (Tue.).

By around 10 a.m., the groomed runs at Higashidateyama, Takamagahara Mammoth, Tanne-no-Mori Okojo, and Ichinose Family had loosened into a lightly granular surface. I ran into a family from Shiga Prefecture (pictured) who commented, “We always check your reports! We came out for our kids’ spring break. Thanks to the elevation, Shiga Kogen still has plenty of snow.”
