Sugadaira is about the blue sky! It was so cold, even -20.2 degrees, this morning because of its high altitude and radiative cooling, but I felt not so chilly at 8:30 a.m. when the lift started the operation thanks to the gentle weather without winds. Urataro Family East and West were crowded with people from the early morning, while the students on their school trips were enjoying skiing in Tengu (Photo) and Shirogane at 9:00 a.m.

The groomed slopes of Tengu Area A Course (Photo) and Hinode Area were nicely firm and in wet snow condition. Those good slopes enabled me to ski speedily with smooth turns. The ski area had not had snowfall since the nighttime on 1/9 (Mon), but the snow condition was still good thanks to the low temperature.

2 people from Ibaraki and Kiso Village in Nagano (Photo) gave me the greeting, “We always enjoy your reports! Both of us graduated from Nagano University and we come to Sugadaira a few times a year as we came in our student days.” The groomed slopes of Urataro Schi Heil (Photo), Family East and West were firmer than those of Tengu and Hinode.

The half on the skier’s right side was groomed in Shirogane Schwarz (Photo). This course was in the shade for a long time, so it was firmer than the courses in Urataro. The course was hard, but the edges of my skis still worked well.
