Snow was falling early this morning, but had stopped by 8:00, revealing glimpses of blue sky. I spoke with a father from Shizuoka Prefecture (pictured, left), who told me, “I love your site!” I’ve been watching the weather and decided to come to Hakunori on Friday night. I met up with my daughters here, who came out from Kanagawa and Tokyo.” Visitors turned out early today, and lines formed for the No. 3 High-Speed Pair, No. 5 High-Speed Pair, and No. 6 Pair before the start of operation.
[Wakaguri Central Slope]

On the Rabbit Course (pictured) and Wakaguri Central Slope, which were both groomed with moderately firm powder snow surfaces, I enjoyed the feeling of the 5 cm of soft, fresh snow. The weather is forecasted to stabilize today and tomorrow, and I saw some skiers trying to assess the conditions around the No. 11 Pair before it opened.

The temperature rose quickly as the sun came out around 9:00. The well-packed, groomed powder snow on the Wakaguri Forest Course was in good condition, and my skis slid well across it. Because it’s a gentle slope, the atmosphere was lightheared and the slope was populated with groups of beginners, families, and children taking lessons.

A boy from Toyama Prefecture (pictured) was the first to put down tracks in the “Chibikko Hiroba” Kid’s Park, where there was 3 to 5cm of fresh snow topping off the groomed area. His father told me, “I love Snownavi! We come to Hakuba area ski resorts quite often during the season. Hakunori is a nice place to ski with kids.”
