Goryu47 REPORT

2023.03.10260cm / Partly Sunny

The rain that fell overnight came to a stop just before the start of business, and the weather improved rapidly thereafter. Strong winds blowing at the top of the ski resort forced Line-E and all lifts in the Alps-Daira area to suspend operations. I decided to check the condition of the slopes post-rain by starting from the Line-C off-ramp and taking Route 8 (pictured) down to the base area.
[Lower Part of Route 8]

The upper portion of the lower half of Route 8 was groomed with a moderately soft, granular snow surface, while the lower portion (pictured) which is mostly shaded, was packed more firmly. Routes 5 and 6 had moderately firm, groomed granular snow surfaces that were beginning to moisten up in the sunlit areas. My skis slid well, and I was able to turn comfortably and in control on all runs.
[Lower Part of Route 8]

Both Route 7 and the lower portion of Route had reasonably tight, groomed coarse snow surfaces first thing in the morning. From top to bottom, I was relieved to find that the snow quality was not as affected by the rain as I thought and that it didn’t seem to have melted much either. In other news, tomorrow, 3/11 (Sat.), Hakuba47 will host a Treasure Hunt & ¥10,000 Snow Flag Contest” (*Starting at 11:00), as well as a “Lift Ticket Refund Campaign” (*Starting at 14:00, limited to the first 100 people to arrive) will be held at Hakuba47. In addition a separate treasure hunt-style event with great prizes for children will be held on the Iimori Slope starting at 10:00.
[Lower Part of Route 1]

Furthermore, tomorrow night the 47th Annual Hakuba Goryu47 Snow Festival will take place. By the way, my favorite run of the morning was on the upper portion of Route 1 (pictured). I was able to comfortably ski at speed on the firmly-groomed, granular snow surface with few other people around!
