Disc golf is now available to play free of charge at CHUMS RIDGE. This exciting sport sees players compete to see how many times it takes them to throw a disc (“Frisbee”) from the start tee to the basket (pictured) that acts as the goal. As in golf, the lower the score the better. The top portion of the basket has chains that soften the impact and catch the disc.

At the horse riding experience area, visitors can try horseback riding with a horse that is leashed. (*Riders must be over 100cm tall and less than 80kg. The cost is JPY2,000, and the experience is closed on Tuesdays.) I spoke with a visitor from Nagano City (pictured), who told me, “I came here with my two friends from Tokyo. I haven’t ridden a horse since I was a child, so it was a lot of fun.” The horses are draped with zebra-patterned fly sheets to protect them from insects.

The rainy season has officially ended in Okinawa, and they recorded their hottest day of the year so far on 6/25 (Sun.). Likewise, it was a warm midsummer’s day in many parts of the Kanto-Koshin region as well. The temperature at the top of Mt. Iwatake just after opening was a comfortable 20°C, but the sunshine during the day did feel hot at times. In other news, the popular sheep (Suffolk breed, pictured) at Iwatake were on the move, and seem to have become accustomed to people… and attention.

The deep green of the mountainside spreading out before the HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR is intensifying and looking even more summer-like (pictured). By the way, the Hakuba Hitotoki-no-mori will play host to a scenic and relaxing yoga session (free of charge, at 10:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 1:30 p.m. each day) every Sunday starting on 7/16, and daily from 8/11 (Fri.) to 8/15 (Tue.).
