Iwatake REPORT

2024.08.20Hakuba Iwatake / Sunny

Today I spoke with a family from Kanagawa Prefecture (pictured), who told me, “We began a 4-day / 3-night trip yesterday, and this is our first time to visit Iwatake with our dog Nora-chan. We have a reservation for the Yoo-Hoo! Swing at 11:00, and we’re really looking forward to it.” Even though the Obon holiday period has drawn to a close, Iwatake is still a popular destination for people and dogs alike.

The dog run in the forest next to the ‘Hakuba Wan!Tain Harbor’ (pictured) was a popular spot for like-minded dog lovers to gather and converse. I had a conversation with a woman from Tokyo (pictured, background) who came with her dog Hyde (the larger dog pictured), and was told, “I stayed overnight in Matsumoto City and this is my first time to visit Iwatake in summer.” A father from Kanagawa Prefecture (pictured, left) added, “Our family came to Iwatake with Luke (the smaller dog pictured) because we heard that we could that Iwatake was pet-friendly.”

Two ladies I met from Nara Prefecture (pictured), commented, “We here in Nagano for 3 days and this is our first time coming to Iwatake. The Mountain Karts (pictured) are really fun!” The Hitotoki Downhill Mountain Biking Experience has been suspended indefinitely due to maintenance and inspection of the course that began on 8/16 (Fri.). Though skiers were cloudy, and despite a few drops of rain, the weather held up pretty well.

The popular Yoo-Hoo! Swing (pictured) had a line of people waiting for their turn right after it opened. Tickets must be purchased in advance from the vending machine next to the Guide Center. (*As of 10:00, the allotment of tickets for the time slots up until 12:00 were sold out.) In comparison, the Hakuba Giant Swing had open slots available after 10:30.
