REPORT

Fresh snow fell for the first time since New Year’s Day! This morning, the moderately firm, groomed wet snow surface on the upper portion of Route 1 was covered in about 15cm of heavy new snow. I crossed paths with a skier (pictured) who told me he was a fan of Snownavi, and added, “The snow is a bit heavy, but it’s fun!”

The wet snow that was coming down hard in the base area around 7:00 a.m. weakened around 8:00 a.m. when the gondola Line-8 started moving. The firmly-groomed, wet snow surfaces of Routes 5 and 6 (pictured) were topped with 3 to 5cm of heavy fresh snow. Even when I crossed into other grooves and tracks, I was still able to make turns without catching my skis.

The fog across the upper portion of the ski resort was relatively thick, but didn’t interfere with my skiing. Route 8 (pictured) also had about 3cm of heavy fresh snow on top of a moderately firm, groomed wet snow surface. The steep, ungroomed Route 3 had 10-15cm of fresh snow topping the firm surface tracks and bumps.

As I skied down the lower part of Route 8 (pictured), I emerged from out of the fog around the middle part of the route. There was around 3 to 5cm of heavy new snow on top of the moderately packed, groomed wet snow base on the lower part of Route 1. There were some areas with thin snow cover at the end of the route, so I was careful to avoid exposed brush when skiing through. Back at the base area after 9:00 a.m., there was about a 10-minute wait for Line-8.
