Goryu47 REPORT

2024.01.05140cm / Sunny

It was a clear, windless morning, and the conditions on Goryu’s Panorama Course (pictured), which was the first to open in the HAKUBA VALLEY this season, were fantastic! As I got off the Goryu Telecabin and stepped out onto the snow to put on my skis, I was greeted by the sound of that perfect powder squeak. The cool morning air felt fresh and comfortable, and I was excited before I even started skiing.

Mt. Goryu (pictured, back left) and the rest of the Northern Alps were so beautifully constrasted against the bright blue sky that many people took out their smartphones and took pictures of the scenery from the ALPS360 area from the chairs of the Alps 1st Pair Lift. Needless to say, the groomed, moderately firm powder snow surface of the Panorama Course (pictured) was supremely easy to ski.

The widely groomed Grand Prix Course (pictured) also had a fantastic, firm packed powder surface! My skis slid well and my edges held the snow tight like they were being sucked into the surface. The Dynamic and Expert courses, which reopened yesterday, 1/4 (Thurs.), had tightly packed tracks and moguls.

The ungroomed Woody Course had a firmly packed, wet snow surface that was nearly flat, while the groomed Toomi Slope also had a firm wet snow surface. The Powder Snow (pictured) and Soft Cream courses, which were groomed on the skiers’ right side, had hard packed wet snow surfaces. The Merry Land Course, which like Woody was ungroomed yet mostly flat, was busy with lessons for international visitors.
