Goryu47 REPORT

2024.01.29245cm / Sunny

It was a beautiful day for skiing with clear skies and no wind! The pure white forms of Mt. Goryu (pictured) and the Hakuba Sanzan (the three major Hakuba peaks) looked contrasted sharply against the bright blue sky, and I would go so far as to say it was the most beautiful skiing day of the season so far. I was excited even before I started skiing, as I could hear the sound of the groomed powder snow squeaking as I walked off of the Line-8 Gondola.
[Upper Portion of Route 8]

The upper portion of Route 1 was groomed with a moderately compacted powder snow surface covered with a thin layer of fluffy, super light fresh snow. Routes 5 and 6 (pictured) were well groomed with firm powder snow bases. I thought that I would love to take Line-C up first thing in the morning on an empty weekday in January, and lap the upper portion of Route 1 to Route 6.
[Route 6]

I headed from the moderately firm, groomed powder snow of Route 8 over to the steep, groomed slope of Route 2 (pictured). The groomed powder base was quite firm and there were a few soft clumps of snow scattered across the surface, but I was able to maintain edge control and link comfortable turns. Route 7 had a similarly firm, groomed powder snow surface.
[Route 2]

The lower part of Route 1 (pictured) had a hard, groomed wet snow surface mixed with artificial snow. Later in the day I ran into the principal of the HAKUBA47 Snowboard School, who told me, “Thank you for mentioning us in your report. If you haven’t already applied for the Hakuba47 Snow Challenge 2024 on 2/3 (Sat.) and 2/4 (Sun.), today is the last day to sign up! We are looking forward to seeing you there!”
