The season opening of GORYU WAVES kicked off today with an OPENING PHOTO SESSION at 9:00! Hakuba Village’s mascot character Murao Sansei performed the memorable opening run, and was cheered on by producer Kazushige Fujita (pictured, right), guest riders, and the other participants. The lady on the left was with Murao the whole time, so I thought she was his girlfriend, but it turns out she was just his chaperone.

GORYU WAVES offers a rhythmical riding experience with wave-like terrain, banks, spines, and more. The OPENING PHOTO SESSION featured demonstrations by guest riders and a photo session conducted by a professional photographer, in which the general public could also join in.

Let’s go back to earlier in the day. As soon as the restrictions separating the Toomi Slope and the Powder Snow Course (pictured) were lifted at 8:00 a.m., visitors who had been skiing during the early morning sunrise skiing period began to cross over to the Powder Snow course one after another. The groomed courses on the lower half of the mountain such as Toomi, Powder Snow, and the Soft Cream Course all had moderately soft powdery snow surfaces.

Today, the weather waivered repeatedly between sun and shade, and there were flurries of snow blown in by a light westerly wind. The Grand Prix, Dynamic (pictured), and Woody courses were groomed with moderately firm powder snow bases. The weekend crows were in full force, and there was still a line at the base station for boarding the Goryu Telecabin even after 9:30 a.m.
