Shiga REPORT

“I’ve been staying in my car and skiing, and today marks my 20th day on the slopes. The early mornings are quiet and the groomed runs are in great shape—conditions are especially great today!” was the comment from a skier from Osaka (pictured, far left). Kevin (pictured, far right), a familiar face at Yakebitaiyama, added, “The new snow yesterday was a bit sticky, but today is absolutely amazing!”

Yakebitaiyama is opening at 6:00 a.m. daily for early morning skiing all the way through 5/6 (Tue., holiday). With a clear blue sky this morning, we were treated to crisp mountain air and stunning views. A skier from Hakuba Village, whom I met on the Giant Slalom course (pictured), told me, “I always check your updates! I came to Yakebitaiyama to enjoy the firm early morning groomers.”

I also spoke with two visitors from Shizuoka Prefecture (pictured) who commented, “We follow Snownavi! We arrived at Yakebitaiyama around 1 a.m., slept a bit, then started skiing. The snow was firmer (better) than expected, so we have been really going for it, haha.” I noticed a lot of advanced skiers carving strong turns on the firm, well-packed spring corn snow during the early morning session.

Around 8 a.m., just as early morning operations were wrapping up, the lower slopes—such as the Gondola Contact Course (pictured), East Connecting Route and South Course—finally began to soften. Even the gentle slopes offered great glide, making for a super comfortable ride. To think that at the end of April there’s still full coverage all the way down, with clean, white snow—it really was an incredible morning!
