As forecast, a solid round of snowfall moved into the area on the night of 12/11 (Thu.) through 12/12 (Fri.). However, with tightly packed isobars and a strong winter pressure pattern in place on 12/12 (Fri.), the winds were intense. This morning, temperatures remained low, but conditions settled into more calm and stable weather.

The second weekend after opening really highlighted just how well the courses on the upper part of the mountain have been prepped and maintained. On Panorama (first photo), Grand Prix (pictured), and the upper section of Route 8 (third photo), 1 to 2 cm of dry new snow sat on top of moderately firm, powder-packed groomed surfaces. There was no brush anywhere, making for conditions where you could link turns exactly as you wanted without worry.

Visitors were also saying things like, “This feels great!” and “It’s so easy to ski!” Looking ahead, the third weekend of the season, 12/21 (Sun.), will feature the first “Kids’ Ski Day” of the winter. The area along the Alps 3rd Pair line and the Technical Course were both left ungroomed, and around 5 cm of soft new snow had accumulated, forming gentle, cushioned undulations.

More than anything, the frost-covered trees blanketing the slopes today were absolutely stunning. Visitor arrivals picked up at a typically brisk weekend pace, with the Toomi No. 1 Parking beside the base station of the Goryu Telecabin filling up by around 7:30 a.m. By about 9:30 a.m., the No. 2 Parking Lot was also full, and the No. 3 lot had begun to fill as well.
