Goryu47 REPORT

2025.12.15120 cm / Snowy

I met a skier early in the morning while it was still somewhat dark outside, and was told, “When I arrived last night, it was a full-on blizzard. I was worried about whether the gondola would run this morning, but I’m glad it did. The fresh snow really does feel amazing!” As steady snow continued to fall, the line waiting to board Gondola Line-8 stretched all the way to the front of Restaurant ALICE.

I also spoke with a man from Omachi City who was the first in line for Line-8, and he told me, “I lined up with my snow-loving friends at 6:30 a.m. Our first run will be Route 2.” After some deliberation, I opted for Route 1 instead. The combination of moderately firm, powder-packed grooming topped with around 20 cm of light new snow delivered an incredibly smooth ride that truly felt like gliding over silk.

Later, when I ran into the same man from Omachi again, he told me, “Route 2 had about 30 cm of fresh snow and was excellent. After you’re done skiing, you should come try my mapo tofu — I’ve been refining it for 15 years!” It turns out he was the owner of Omachi Shokuji-dokoro Kei (pictured, center), and I realized we’d met before. Around this time, the snowfall intensified and fog rolled in, making the detarils of the snow surface a bit harder to read.

At the Line-C unloading area, I ran into the team from Board Tune Yukizo, who said, “The snow down at the base was a bit wet, but up top it’s really good. …And by the way, if your board stops gliding, bring it by our shop.” Routes 5 and 6 were groomed with moderately firm, powder-packed snow surfaces (pictured), and had around 15 cm of slightly moist new snow, while the lower section of Route 1 had closer to 20 cm of wetter new snow. (Sorry for all the business plugs!)
