Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2026.02.01220 cm / Snowy

This morning, I met a couple from Kanagawa Prefecture who told me, “We always read your reports. You actually took photos of our grandchild last year as well (pictured), and we were really happy to have them. We’re staying three nights at the Hakuba Alps Hotel, and today is our first day. We really like the calm, relaxed atmosphere.” The Kids Area has free admission and plenty of free play equipment, is usually uncrowded, and is conveniently located just steps from the hotel.

The weather was calm today, with light, dry snow drifting down gently. I had a conversation with a couple from Azumino City (pictured) who commented, “We always read your reports. It’s a bit late, but today is our first ski day of the season. We don’t know when we’ll be able to come back next, so we’re planning to ski as much as we can today.” The Rabbit Course (pictured) was topped with around 3 cm of light new snow, and was groomed into a moderately firm, easy-to-ski powder surface.

The Wakaguri Central Slope and Highway Course were both lightly dusted with 2 to 3 cm of new snow, and also offered moderately firm, well-packed groomed powder. The cross course along the Alps No. 5 High-Speed Pair (pictured, back left) was just as neatly prepared as the other groomed runs. By the way, please note that the Alps No. 11 Pair will be closed all day tomorrow, 2/2 (Mon.), for maintenance inspections.

I also had a long conversation with two guests from Gifu Prefecture and Ikeda Town (pictured) before operations began, and they joked, “We always read your reports. We had no idea it was snowing! …Wait, we don’t have to work hard and strike a bunch of different poses, do we?” When I ran into them again on my way back after finishing up, they smiled and said, “Edges bite really well on this powder grooming—it’s very easy to ski!”
