Today marked the second straight morning of clear skies. Both yesterday and today saw strong radiational cooling early on, bringing mid-winter cold temperatures at dawn, but by around the 8 a.m. start of operations, intense sunshine had made conditions much more comfortable. The Satomi Central Slope (pictured), Wakaguri Central Slope, and Wakaguri Forest Course—where snow that had softened during the day yesterday had since been groomed—all featured firm, moisture-rich snow surfaces.

The Highway Course (pictured) and the Kamoshika Course were also groomed with firm, moisture-rich snow, yet my edges bit and held well. Taking advantage of a quiet weekday morning with a very slow trickle of visitors, I lapped the Alps No. 3 High-Speed Pair two or three times over with zero wait, carving my own fresh lines run after run.

The Hakunori Cross Course (pictured) is now open along the Alps No. 5 High-Speed Pair on the Wakaguri Central Slope. The setup runs top to bottom with triple banks, double waves, a bank, a tabletop, another bank, and a final triple-wave section. The course will host the National Disabled Snowboard Championships & Supporters Cup on 2/7 (Sat.) & 2/8 (Sun.).

As temperatures climbed steadily, even the snow surface at the top of the resort began to feel slightly moist by around 10 a.m. Two guests I met while they were photographing the south-facing views from Sky View (pictured) said, “Oh, Snownavi! We always read your reports. We’re challenging ourselves to get good photos of our own THE DAY.HAKUBA boards at every HAKUBA VALLEY ski resort, and Hakunori is our fourth stop so far.”
