After the last two major cold waves had moved through, both yesterday and today delivered clear skies and calm winds—ideal conditions for skiing. Today, 2/5 (Thu.), the D Lift operated in place of the C Lift (Milky Way and Super Antares remain closed). Andromeda (pictured) had been groomed across its full width, and featured well-set packed powder that made for smooth, easy skiing.

I made my way to Pollux (pictured) from Procyon via Regulus. On the gentle groomed slopes of Procyon and Pollux, moderately firm packed powder—similar to other groomed runs across the resort—kept my skis running fast and smoothly. On the intermediate-pitch Regulus, half of the run was groomed with well-set packed powder, while the other half consisted of moderately firm moguls.

On Perseus (pictured), which has a maximum pitch of 28 degrees, the well-set packed powder base sent plumes of snow spraying into the air with every strong edge set from advanced skiers. Castor, home to the snow park, featured well-packed moist snow. The main park was neatly maintained with 17 items in total, while the hike-up park offered 4 items, all in good shape as well.

Near the top of the C Lift (pictured), I was approached by a group of four from Tokyo and Kanagawa who asked, “Could you take our photo?” One woman in purple outerwear joked, “Today I brought along my lovers No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3. Even they are happy with weather this nice.” Lover No. 1 (pictured, far left) added, “With easy access and great snow quality, I’m more in love with Kandatsu than with my girlfriend. Being able to practice moguls here is another big plus.”
