Kandatsu REPORT

2026.01.28200 cm / Snowy

The snow that fell heavily at the base area yesterday evening was on the wet side, but by the morning, around 30 cm of new snow with a soft, fluffy feel had accumulated. With that in mind, I lined up first for the A Lift and, as dry snow continued to fall, headed straight for Hercules—the steep pitch in the center of the photo—where I had scored great turns during my previous visit.

After linking the A Lift to the C Lift, I dropped into Pegasus (pictured), where the moderately firm, groomed packed powder base had an ideal, flat finish. I enjoyed the subtle texture of the lightly settled new snow while gradually and comfortably building speed. On the gentler groomed slopes—Procyon, Pollux, Vega, and Polaris—around 3 to 5 cm of light new snow had thinly coated the soft packed powder bases.

Around 20 to 30 cm of light new snow had built up on Hercules, and I skied in a fairly straight line, occasionally bumping the base underneath while staying conscious of the position of my skis. I met a woman visiting from Shizuoka (pictured) who told me, “I’ve seen Snownavi before. The new snow was really fluffy today!” Among Kandatsu’s various lift discount programs, the weekday-only Ladies’ Day stands out as an excellent deal, offering a one-day lift ticket plus either access to Kami-no-Yu onsen or a crepe, along with an original face pack, all for just ¥3,500.

An E Lift attendant shared, “There was no wind yesterday, so the snow settled really well. We’ve got about 30 cm here this morning.” I also spoke with two visitors from Chiba, who said, “We try to avoid driving on snowy roads as much as possible, so we often come here since it’s the closest resort to the Yuzawa Interchange.” The snowfall that began in the morning picked up even more around 10 a.m., just as I finished my reporting.
