Akakura Onsen REPORT

2026.02.12345 cm / Mostly Cloudy

The grooming machines were still running on the Ginrei No. 3 Slope (pictured) right up until the 8:30 a.m. opening, leaving behind soft powder conditions. I met a professor from Biwako Seikei Sport College in Shiga Prefecture (pictured) who told me, “I always use Snownavi! We’ve been here since yesterday for a ski training camp. Your reports make it easy to understand the slope conditions—they’re very helpful.”

The Panorama Course offered moderately soft groomed powder up top (pictured), with soft groomed powder lower down. I enjoyed the smooth, mellow feel underfoot and linked turns just as I wanted. Although the sun occasionally broke through, skies remained mostly overcast, keeping temperatures from rising too quickly and helping preserve the excellent snow quality.

A local skier (pictured) who was first in line for the Yodel No. 4 Pair commented, “I always read your reports! I’ve been quite busy skiing powder so far this season, haha, but starting today, I’ll be focusing on gate training here.” The Sekimi Slope (pictured) matched the conditions on the upper-to-mid portions of Panorama, offering moderately soft, easy-to-ski groomed powder.

The heavy accumulation on the roof at the Yodel No. 2 Quad unloading station (pictured) tells the story of the three separate cold waves from mid-January to early February that delivered massive snowfall to the Myoko area. While National Route 18 at the base was clear of ice and easy to drive, conditions changed on Prefectural Route 39 (Myoko Kogen Park Line), where wet snow occasionally tugged at the steering wheel as I drove.
